QUESTIONNAIRE EVALUATION.......

Questionnaire
1. What is your preferred choice of music on a day to day basis?
Hip-hop RnB garage reggae/ bashment drum and bass
2. Do you currently read a music magazine? If yes please state which magazine you buy?
………………………………………………………………………
3. Who would you like to see on the front cover of your music magazine?

4. Would you be interested in a magazine which was specifically about the UK urban music and rave scene?

5. What kinds of features would you like inside of the magazine? E.g. promotions, interviews, updates etc…

6. Which one of these magazines appeal to you most and in a few words why?

Information gathered from my questionnaire
Q1. By asking various members of my demographic group what types of music they listen to, it allowed me to choose a specific genre of music to base my magazine around. 75% said they mostly listen to UK garage so I featured UK garage and grime scene artists in my magazine.
Q2. By asking the question about what magazines they currently buy, it helped me to focus on the competition and include things in my magazine that they didn’t, like exclusive interviews with new up and coming artists and promotional offers on raves and parties and concerts.
Q3. Many respondents said they would like to see something which wasn’t the same as any other magazine and actually real sized people. My primary image was of a fellow raver who was just partying. The picture was taken spontaneously and captures the essence of the party scene which is what I wanted my magazine to do.
Q4. This question related specifically to my magazine because I wasn’t to sure whether to base my whole magazine on jus UK artists or to have a mixture of both but after analysing American teen magazines, I realised there wasn’t a magazine of its kind to represent the British teenage public.
Q5. Everyone who answered this question said they would like to see more females in magazine shown in a positive light as the general connotations attached to the demographic isn’t positive. I achieved this by placing a black female as my up and coming artist for the interview of my double page spread.
Q6. By using several magazines of a similar genre, I was able to asses which magazine caught certain peoples eyes and why and then applied it to my magazine. This came in the form of bright colours and large images. My magazine is based around using spontaneous colours in no specific order. The randomness of the magazines front cover is the device I have used to draw in peoples attention.

Puffs/ Anchorage text:
i tried to use puffs that would draw in the readers attention but using so many colours slightly dfeats the point of puffs. however the content of my puffs are affective as they directly relate to not jus party life but everyday life for the target audience. For example talking about discount from popular teenage clothing stores gives T.A an incentive to buy the magazine. Aso everyone knows students find it hard to budget correctly what with paying for university and college expenses, so buy encouraging them to purchase the magazine because of the immense benefits attached to the magazine should increase sales. >EVENT PROMOTIONS: on cover appeals to older members of T.A who are frequent attendees of these partys/ raves. Also promotions for concerts appeals to everyone who is into music as different people like different arists. the use of real raves and concerts gives my magazine a realistic aspect rather than making up events n promo's.
> TOP10 ARTISTS OF 2008 ARE...: on the cover highlights features inside the magazine. this particular puff is typical of music magazines so i felt it was important to include it as it is an expectation of regular magazine consumers. however the way in which i used this puff wasnt successful as it was black and blended in with the background. also the size of the font made it hard to see what it said from the beginning. In addition the text becomes overshadowed by the other surrounding colourful texts which is negative. changes to make to my puffs would be to make them slightly more structured and use some sort of colour scheme.

EVALUATION....

TITLE:

The bright colours of the individual letters makes a bold statement about the unconventional themes and features the magazine has instore. Its also a representation of the music genre; a cool, retro, free spirited feel. This colour change throughout the title and the text in the puffs is a way i chose not to follow the general codes and conventions of a typical magazine from a similar/ same genre.

The exclamation mark implies the tittle is being shouted or is bold, again tying in with the genre of music.

problems i had with the title was the colour schemes, finding suitable colours that would show up on the bakground colours.

CENTRAL IMAGE:

The cental image of a black female aged 18 is a way I highlighted the demographics of the target audience. By placing someone who belongs to the demographic group makes it clear to consumers of the magazine who it is aimed. Also by using a female on the cover it appeals to men who are attracted to feamles on the target audience thus encouraging them to look at the magazine and hopefully purchase it.Iused the crop bitmass tool to crop the image from the original image. This seemed to be the most difficult aspect of using fireworks and working with images.

Magazine Debrief......

The genre i have chosen for my music magazine is UK urban club scene music. The demographics of my target audience is females of ethnic origin aged 16-25yrs. they should be working/ middle classed students who's interests are close to socializing, partying and clubbing. I have decided to target this audience because I feel there is a niche in the market for a magazine specifically appealing to this group. Being young generally means having fun and socializing. However many juggle the strains of working hard and achieving academically and the sacrifice of a social life or let a social life interfere with academic achievement. I aim to encourage a healthy social life and an equally or even better academic life. Special features in my magazine will promote 16+ raves and 18+ raves because I don’t want to encourage a certain group of my demographic to rave illegally or exclude them from partying at all?·
